Introducing… The Bacon Brothers
Long before Kevin Bacon took to the big screen and Michael Bacon became the film and television composer that everyone wanted to work with, they were just two brothers, born and raised in Center City Philadelphia.
“My earliest memory of music was what my brother was playing or the music he brought home,” Kevin Bacon remembers. “I would sit on the steps of our basement while he was downstairs practicing with our sister, Hilda, and their band. So my heroes growing up were all rock ‘n’ rollers…”
The brothers have been performing as a band since 1995 and have since released 6 LP’s. The most recent being 2008’s New Year’s Day. The album is the most cohesive work the boys have done thus far. Kevin does most of the writing lyrically while Michael contributes more of the instrumental composition.
Their band, which they have been playing with since the very beginning, was also given creative freedom to contribute as well, with each member producing two songs each. The record stays true to the Bacon’s “trademark gritty rock with a touch of Philly soul.”
Despite the criticism towards movie stars crossing over into the world of music, Kevin and Michael embrace the risk. And so far it has been worth every moment!
